Explore the unique and tranquil sights and sounds of the oldest rainforest in Borneo. This pristine rainforest is also home to more than 320 species of Birds, 124 species of Mammals, 72 species of Reptiles, 56 species of Amphibians and a staggering 200 species of plants per hectare. Besides, it has recently sanctioned by the Ministry of Tourism Malaysia as an Important Bird Area ( MY024-Danum Valley Conservation Area). This IBAs are sites of international importance for conserving birds and other biodiversity.
Borneo Rainforest Lodge is perched on Danum Valley Conservation Area – Sabah’s largest Lowland Rainforest, surrounded with primary rainforests giving a relaxing vibe.
Itinerary
* All planned activities may vary with weather condition and guest fitness level.
| 0755hrs: | Meet & Greet at Lahad Datu Airport upon arrival and proceed to Borneo Nature Tours office for registration & briefing. |
| 0930hrs: | Depart for 2.5 hours overland journey on gravel road to Borneo Rainforest Lodge. This is the largest protected area of lowland dipterocarp rainforest in Sabah, covering 43800 hectares. |
| 1200hrs: | Arrive and check in at the Lodge and proceed for lunch. |
| 1430hrs: | Slide presentation at Conference Room. |
| 1500hrs: | Trekking activity: Introduction to the forest through Nature Trails and tree top “Canopy Walkway” 360m in length and 27m at the highest point, for an up-close observation of the rainforest. |
| 1900hrs: | Dinner. |
| 2030hrs: | Night drive in an open-top vehicle in search of nocturnal animals. |
| 0700hrs: | Breakfast. |
| 0900hrs: | Trekking activity: To the Kadazandusun Burial Site – Coffin Cliff before proceed to View Point for a bird’s eye view of the area. Descend to the jacuzzi pool for a refreshing dip before lunch. |
| 1230hrs: | Lunch. |
| 1500hrs: | Trekking activity: Introduction to the forest through Nature Trails and tree top “Canopy Walkway” 360m in length and 27m at the highest point, for an up-close observation of the rainforest. |
| 1900hrs: | Dinner. |
| 2030hrs: | Night walk in search of nocturnal insect and animals. |
| 0700hrs: | Breakfast, Guests at own leisure. |
| 1200hrs: | Lunch. |
| 1330hrs: | Check out and depart for Lahad Datu Airport (2.5 hours drive). |
Trip Essentials
The rainforest is very different from any urban place due to its own micro climate and tropical environment. It is advisable for you to be prepared with proper clothing to wear and personal things to take along with you. Here are some essential items for your trip.
- Light and comfortable clothing for trekking (preferably long sleeve shirts and quick dry)
- Light weight sweater or jacket to wear during the night drive
- Swimwear for water activities
- Raincoat and a hat
- Extra socks (Leech socks are available for sale at our lodge)
- Good walking shoes (essential for all outdoor activities) and an extra rubber shoes for river stream walk

- Other personal belongings which may include camera, binoculars, flash light and toiletries (non-aerosol insect repellent, sun block etc.)
- Personal medication (if any)
Health & Safety commitment
We are committed in stepping up precautionary measures for the guests and it is part of our ongoing effort to ensure that every guest’s well-being and comfort are taken care of during the program. We follow the general recommendations of World Health Organization (WHO) as well as relevant local authorities to ensure comprehensive actions are taken.
- Guest Contact: We maintain social distancing protocols and have re-arrange furniture to allow more space for distancing.
- Our Team: Our service and cleaning associates wears appropriate personal protection and maintain safe distance with guests.
- Commitment to clean: Surface areas and public spaces are frequently cleaned with the recommended alcohol-based sanitation products.
- Food Safety:Food handlers and service associates are trained on safe food preparation and service practices with enhanced guidelines.
Notes
- Book & Stay period until 31 March 2021.
- Free cancellation up to 72 hours prior to arrival date.
- Each paying guest is entitled to RM80 subsidy for COVID-19 Swab test.
- Children below 18 years old sharing FOC, payable only Entry Permit for Malaysian RM30.00 and for Non Malaysian RM50.00.
- RTK-Antigen Swab Test for adults is compulsory. It has to be done within 7 days prior to arrival. A copy of the result is required before checking in.
- RTK-Antibody Blood Test for children below 18 years old is acceptable. Our company will not subsidise the cost of this test for the children. Parents will have to pay for them. A copy of the result is required before checking in.
